About Us
Since 1999, the Arizona Sunshine Angels have been a consistent source of support for children in foster care, forming connections and offering encouragement during their time of uncertainty. Partnering with 11 group home agencies in Maricopa County, we provide the extra care, love, and stability these children need to navigate their young lives with confidence and hope. Beyond support, we strive to make every child feel truly valued by meeting their essential needs—providing clothing, haircuts and ethnic hairstyles, and hygiene products to foster dignity and self-worth. We also create joyful memories by celebrating birthdays and making Christmas extra special, ensuring that each child knows they are cherished. Through these essentials and meaningful experiences, we inspire hope and help build the confidence they need to embrace a brighter future.
Who are These Special Kids?
Children in foster care are rescued by the Department of Child Safety and placed in group homes until a more permanent solution can be found or until they age out of the foster care system. Removed from their families, friends, and everything familiar for their own protection, they face immense challenges. Yet, despite experiencing abuse, neglect, or abandonment, these resilient children continue to move forward with hope.
In Maricopa County, approximately 800 children live in group homes at any given time, with around 1,000 transitioning in and out each year. The average stay in the system is 15 months, creating a constant cycle of change and uncertainty.
